Choose porcelain subway tile!
...When you are interested in authenticity! Porcelain is commercial grade and a cut above when it comes to quality.  Genuine Japanese porcelain is miles ahead of common Mexican ceramic subway tiles. Samples are available: $5 for the first one, $2 for each additional. These tiles are not returnable, so it is a good idea to get samples, which typically ship out very quickly!

Unglazed tiles should be sealed before using to allow ease in cleaning. Sealers can be purchased at any good local tile store. Don't buy cheap!
